Trezor Wallet Setup — Trezor.io/start

This presentation-style guide walks you through a clean, secure first-time setup of your Trezor hardware wallet. Always begin at the official portal: Trezor.io/start.

Heads-up: Bookmark the official page and double-check the URL each visit. Phishing sites often imitate the look and feel of hardware wallet vendors. When in doubt, retype Trezor.io/start in your browser address bar.

What You’ll Need

Hardware & Cables

Your Trezor device (Model T or Model One), the original USB cable, and optionally an OTG adapter if using a compatible mobile bridge.

Tip

Avoid unverified hubs. Connect directly to a trusted computer USB port.

A Clean, Trusted Computer

Use a macOS, Windows, or Linux machine you keep updated. Close other apps, and consider a standard user account for wallet tasks.

Offline Writing Tools

Pen + the supplied recovery cards. Never photograph, scan, or type the seed into cloud-connected apps.

When ready, start from the official setup flow at Trezor.io/start.

Step-by-Step Setup (First Time)

  1. 1) Go to the Official Onboarding

Open your browser and visit Trezor.io/start. The page will detect your model and guide you to install Trezor Suite (desktop) or use the web version with the bridge.

    Security Check

If the page asks for your recovery seed before device initialization, stop: return to Trezor.io/start.

  2. 2) Install Trezor Suite

Download Trezor Suite for your OS and verify its origin. After installation, plug in your Trezor device using the original cable.

    Driver/Bridge Prompt

If prompted to install the Trezor Bridge, follow the instructions on Trezor.io/start to complete it.

  3. 3) Firmware Check & Update

On first use, the device may request a firmware update. Approve on the device screen. Keep the cable connected and do not interrupt power.

    Why This Matters

Latest firmware ensures security patches and compatibility. If unsure whether an update is genuine, compare instructions at Trezor.io/start.

  4. 4) Create a New Wallet

Choose “Create new wallet” in Trezor Suite. Confirm on the device. You’ll be guided to generate a recovery seed.

    Record the Recovery Seed

Write each word clearly on the recovery card in order. Store it offline in a private, fire- and water-resistant place. Never share it.

  5. 5) Set PIN & Optionally a Passphrase

Pick a strong PIN that you can memorize. Consider enabling a passphrase (advanced users) to add a layer of protection. Learn the workflow on Trezor.io/start.

    Micro-Note

A passphrase acts like an extra word that derives a different vault. Lose it and the funds in that vault are irrecoverable.

  6. 6) Add Accounts & Receive a Test Transaction

Create the needed coin accounts in Suite. For first use, receive a small test amount. Verify the address on the device screen before sharing it.

Best Practices & Safety

Keep Secrets Offline

Recovery seed and passphrase should never be typed into any computer or phone. If any site requests the seed during routine use, close it and re-open Trezor.io/start.

Verify Addresses on Device

Always match the address shown in Trezor Suite with the one on the device screen. The device display is the source of truth.

Use Official Software Only

Download Suite and firmware following links from Trezor.io/start. Avoid third-party “helpers,” browser extensions, or random Telegram tips.

Phishing Red Flags

Backup, Recovery & Maintenance

Test Your Backup (Carefully)

After initial setup, consider a dry-run on a spare device or in a controlled scenario to confirm you can restore from your recovery words. Follow official restoration steps at Trezor.io/start.

Device Loss or Damage

If the device is lost, funds are recoverable with your seed on a new Trezor. Initialize the replacement using the restore flow referenced from Trezor.io/start.

Routine Upkeep

Periodically check for Suite and firmware updates. For guidance and checksums, consult Trezor.io/start.
